Context:

Our day out is a written comedy by the playwright, Willy Russell. Russell is a English dramatist, lyricist, composer, playwright, screenwriter and author. Russell is best known for 'Educating Rita' , 'Shirley Valentine' , 'Blood brothers' and 'Our day out'.At the age of 15 he left school to become a ladies' hairdresser, when he got to the age of 20 he decided to back to college. This led to him qualifying as a teacher. During these years, Russell also worked as a semi-professional singer, writing and performing his own songs in folk clubs.Our day out is a musical, In 2009, Russell rewrote the musical and updated to a more modern feeling.

Research:

The themes and topic discussed in the play are;
  • Lack of Education
  • Lack of opportunity and deprivation
Lack of Deprivation is lack of material benefits considered to be basic necessities in a society. To understand my character Linda abit more I watched the movie on youtube to get ideas from the character, Linda on how to act and understand the subtext of the character.

Problem solving:

During this time it has been very hard for me to keep up with work and to interact with my teachers and others in my class because of the Coronavirus lockdown. I have also been having problems with my online classes as they were hard to access and join.

Carnival & Fun Fair Tents - Customize Your Pop Up Festival Canopy Now!Scene 38: fairground

I have decided to do a set design for scene 38, the 'fairground' for the play, 'Our day out'.

Firstly I would have red and white tents filled with games ,prizes and sweets to indicate where they are.

Also, on stage there would be a colourful back drop with 'FAIRGROUND' in flashing lights such as red, yellow, green, blue etc using all positive colours to show an exciting mood as they are all together enjoying themselves,

I would also have many other rides in the background of that funfair scene, such as Carousel and the Waltzer shown by the two pictures
